Playdate at the Lake

OK Max, toughen up. Learn how to swim.

Yesterday Max and mommy had a playdate with Arthur at the Enka Lake beach. Max dipped in the water. First skirting the shore, picking up shells, sand and Arthur's beach toys. Then he started sitting in the water. I watched Arthur go deeper and deeper until he came out of water to play with Max's Bike. Max stayed in water getting deeper and deeper. As I watched Max stand up and sit down in the water I thought how funny he was. We hadn't been to the beach to really swim before. He's swimming with floaties in our pool, like a champ.

He then sat down one time and sank and sank. Forgetting I was Pregnant, I jumped up, ran forward, toppled over because of the weight of my huge belly. I ran for the water and pulled Max up. He was so surprised to find out that he couldn't breathe under water. He was a big boy though. He didn't cry, didn't want to get out of the water, just wanted to keep playing. Good job Max!

I watched him play some more... I stayed close the water's edge this time. He didn't go that far out again. He stayed a little more shallow. He walked on his hands along the edge of the water, belly down, feet floating behind him. Then all of sudden, his hands gave way and his head went under water and he tried and tried to pull his little head up. I jumped into the water and pulled him up. Again no crying, just surprise that he actually put his head under water. We had a long talk about standing up if we sunk again and not trying to breathe under water.

He did really well. We came home and went swimming with daddy to wash beach off. He wanted to get in the pool with no floaties. He also wanted to swim on his, not realizing he doesn't know how to swim or float without arm floaties. We'll work on that!

Good Job Max! You're fearless. And I almost went into labor.
